SCHMUCKISMUS 16.03. – 16.06.2019
SCHMUCKISMUS
”The Neue Sammlung has invited Karen Pontoppidan, Professor of jewelry at the Academy for Applied Arts Munich, to curate an exhibition that keenly examines the role of artist jewelry as a mode of critical discourse. In the works of a new generation of designers, jewelry has extended far beyond an expression of personal identity to become an instrument of social commentary and critique. Themes such as ecology, consumer society, and feminism have all been directly addressed through jewelry. There are also softer, but no less societally relevant references, like questions of identity-formation or the current state of humanity in the 21st century.” (www.pinakothek.de)

TABLEWARE & TOOLS 15.12.2017 – 20.01.2018
TABLEWARE & TOOLS
Hibernate group: Eija Mustonen, Helena Lehtinen, Tarja Tuupanen and Jenni Sokura.
”Hibernate is a group formed by four Finnish jewellery artists. Their new project Tableware & Tools is now showed for the first time in an exhibition at PLATINA. Within the group they work as independent artists around common shared interests. During get-togethers, the artists presented their ideas or sketches for the others to gain feedback and criticism. These meetings fed the process allowing the shared information and thoughts to multiply. Co-operation supports independent working, which is also the main point to work as a group. It goes without saying that all these meetings were organized around dinner, around tableware and tools. The exhibited works move between jewellery and installations.”
The exhibition is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, South Karelia Regional Fund and Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation.
